WINTER/SPRING 2012
After-school program is designed for 3.5 - 10 year old kids meeting 2, 3, and 5 days per week for 3 hours Monday to Friday from 3-6pm.
This after-school program combines 45 minutes of enriching classes, open play, snacks, plus we help with their homework, reading, writing, math and English during tutoring hour. Every day we offer Martial Arts, Gymnastics, Art Adventures, Creative Movement dance, Theater Club, Sports Fans, Ice Skating and Knowledge Club*. Long Island City Kids Enrichment Center offers a no-fee pickup option from schools in the neighborhood. Transportation is also provided to schools located in Astoria, Sunnyside and Greenpoint at additional costs. It is a great alternative for working parents!This Fall LIC Kids will offer tutoring sessions in many subjects. Parents will be able to add sessions to your child's afterschool program or have them in the comfort of your home. Please visit Club Z! Tutoring for details.*Knowledge Club In Pre-K your children will learn the foundations of reading through the use of Phonemic Awareness. Your child will learn about rhythm/rhyme, parts of words, sequence of sounds, and the manipulation of those sounds. We will also focus on basic writing techniques of both lower and uppercase letters in the alphabet.
In Mathematics your child will learn number order, counting, sorting, patterns, position, shapes, ordinal numbers (first, last, etc.), sequencing and basic measurement. By practicing with real world objects, your child will grasp the importance of mathematics in everyday life.
In Kindergarten your child will continue to use phonemic awareness, and learn the conventions of writing. Your child will continue to practice writing lower and uppercase letters, learn about spacing, writing process of left to right and top to bottom. They will also learn color, number, direction, and symbol words.
In Math, your child will continue to learn about order, counting 1-100, ordinal numbers, and basic measurement. They will also begin to learn basic arithmetic, money and value, and telling time.
In First Grade your child will continue to use phonemic awareness, learning short and long vowel sounds, consonant blends and digraphs, and rhyming words. They will begin to learn the construction of sentences using nouns and verbs and importance of capitalization and punctuation.
In math, we will continue teaching addition and subtraction operations. We will continue to measure items and use estimation, learn the values of money, tell time, and put events in order according to a calendar. We will begin learning about basic geometry with the use of 3-D manipulatives. We will also introduce data collecting and graphing. Finally we will construct word problems.
